If you’re sourcing Vietnamese coffee from Hello 5 Coffee for private label, OEM, or wholesale distribution, packaging is one of the first things we’ll work through together. This article lays out every packaging option we support, how each one works, and what drives the cost.

Hello 5 Coffee has been roasting and exporting Vietnamese coffee since 2012. Our facility in Ho Chi Minh City is certified HACCP, HALAL, and COR (Kosher). We source arabica from Cầu Đất (Lâm Đồng) and robusta from Đắk Lắk and Đắk Nông through direct trade with over 300 farming households, and we export to Japan, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The coffee and packaging come from the same conversation with us — you don’t manage a separate vendor.

What actually determines packaging cost

Two things drive almost everything: the number of colors in your design and the complexity of the artwork.

nonla-roastery

Each color requires a separate printing pass. A one-color logo over a plain base is far cheaper than a six-color design with gradients or photographic detail. Simple, solid designs can use silk-screen printing (in kéo lụa), which has low setup cost and suits small-to-mid runs. Full-color or detailed artwork needs offset printing (in offset) or rotogravure — cylinder printing (in trục ống đồng) — both of which have higher setup costs but produce sharper, richer results. Cylinder printing in particular requires engraving copper rollers, which is expensive upfront but becomes very cost-efficient at high volumes and is the standard for premium retail and export.

Keep this in mind as you read through the formats below.

Unprinted bags (túi trơn)

Unprinted bags are the entry point: no printing, just the base material. You apply your own sticker label separately. They come in several formats.

Unprinted bags

  • Stand-up window bags (túi đáy đứng cửa sổ) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. These have a flat base so they stand upright on a shelf, combined with a transparent window so buyers can see the product inside. The plastic version uses a PET/MPET/PE multilayer film that blocks moisture, oxygen, and light well. The kraft version uses kraft paper outside and PE lining inside — less moisture resistance but a strong natural aesthetic. Both can be fitted with a zipper or a one-way degassing valve. Good for whole bean coffee where visual product inspection is a selling point.
  • 8-panel stand-up zipper bags (túi zip 8 cạnh trơn) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Eight sealed edges create a stable self-standing bag with a flat square bottom. The zipper lets the customer reseal after opening. Available in plastic (PET/MPET/PE) or kraft (kraft/PE). The plastic version is suited to brands that want a clean, modern look; kraft suits specialty and organic positioning. Both are ready for a sticker label.
  • 4-seal flat pouches (túi 4 cạnh trơn) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Two main faces and two side gussets, sealed on four edges. Doesn’t stand upright but stacks efficiently in storage and shipping boxes. Lower cost than stand-up formats. The plastic version uses PET/MPET/PE; the kraft version uses kraft/PE. Well suited to ground coffee, sample packs, or any SKU where shelf display isn’t a priority.

Silk-screen printed bags (túi in kéo lụa)

Silk-screen printing uses a stencil and specialized ink applied directly to the bag surface. It handles 1–4 solid colors cleanly, with no color gradients or photographic elements. Print is durable and doesn’t smear. Setup cost is low, which makes it practical for small-to-mid runs or limited edition products. If you want a branded bag without committing to the volume that cylinder printing requires, this is often the right starting point.

Silk-screen printed bags

  • 4-seal flat pouches, silk-screen printed (túi 4 cạnh in kéo lụa) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Printed on both the front and back face. Available in plastic (PET/MPET/PE) or kraft/MPET. The kraft version gives a natural, matte look that reads well in specialty retail; the plastic version has a cleaner, more contemporary finish. Both work for roasted ground coffee and whole bean.
  • 8-panel stand-up zipper bags, silk-screen printed (túi zip 8 cạnh in kéo lụa) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Same material options as the flat pouch version but in the self-standing 8-panel format with zipper. This is one of the most practical combinations for a branded retail SKU that doesn’t yet have the volume for cylinder printing: the bag stands well on a shelf, the zipper is convenient for the consumer, and the cost is lower than offset or rotogravure. The kraft version suits artisan or eco-positioned brands; the plastic version is well-suited to a more premium-looking product.

Offset printed bags (túi in offset)

Offset printing uses pre-printed laminated sheets that are then formed into bags. It supports full-color designs including gradients, complex illustrations, and detailed typography. No printing cylinders need to be engraved, which means lower setup cost than rotogravure and more flexibility to change designs between runs. A good option for brands with strong visual identities that need full-color reproduction but aren’t yet at the volume where cylinder printing pays off.

Offset printed bags

  • 4-seal plastic bags, offset printed (túi 4 cạnh nhựa in offset) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. PET/MPET/PE multilayer film. Supports full-color printing across all faces, with accurate color reproduction and fine detail. Rigid enough to handle long-distance shipping without deforming.
  • 4-seal kraft bags, offset printed (túi 4 cạnh giấy kraft in offset) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Kraft/MPET construction. The kraft surface accepts offset printing across multiple faces with good color accuracy. No cylinder engraving needed, so design changes between runs are less costly. The inner MPET layer provides moisture and oxygen resistance. Suitable for brands that want the natural kraft look with full-color branding.

Cylinder-printed bags (túi zip in trục ống đồng)

Rotogravure — cylinder printing — uses engraved copper rollers that transfer ink directly onto the bag film. This produces the sharpest color reproduction, the most consistent results across a large run, and the most premium finish of any printing method we use. Setup cost is higher because the cylinders have to be engraved, and production takes around 10–15 days. But the unit cost drops significantly at volume. This is the standard for supermarket-grade and export-grade packaging. If you’re building a retail product for Japan, Germany, or any market where shelf presentation is critical, cylinder printing is what your competitors are using.

Cylinder-printed bags

  • Stand-up zipper bags with flat base, cylinder printed (túi zip đáy đứng in trục ống đồng) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. Two main faces and a flat base. Full-surface printing. Available in PET/MPET/PE (glossy, modern finish) or kraft/MPET (natural look with premium print quality). Zipper closure. This format works well for brands that sell whole bean and want maximum shelf impact.
  • 8-panel stand-up zipper bags, cylinder printed (túi zip 8 cạnh in trục ống đồng) — Available in 250g, 500g, and 1kg. The most premium format we offer. Eight sealed edges, flat square bottom, zipper closure, and full-color cylinder printing across all faces. Available in PET/MPET/PE or kraft/MPET. This is the format typically chosen by brands targeting retail shelves in export markets, where packaging is evaluated as carefully as the product inside.

One-way degassing valve bags (túi zip 8 cạnh van 1 chiều)

A one-way valve fitted to any stand-up bag solves a specific problem with freshly roasted coffee. In the first two weeks after roasting, coffee releases significant amounts of CO₂. Without a valve, this gas either builds pressure inside the bag — which can cause damage during air freight — or forces a delay between roasting and packing. The one-way valve lets CO₂ escape while preventing outside air from entering. This means coffee can be packed immediately after roasting without any compromise to quality or bag integrity.

One-way degassing valve bags One-way degassing valve bags 1 One-way degassing valve bags 2

We offer Vietnamese, Japanese, and Italian valves depending on your market and quality requirements. Valve bags are standard for Hello 5 Coffee export products going to Japan and Europe. Available in 250g (13×20cm), 500g (13×26.5cm), and 1kg (14×33cm), in plain, silk-screen, offset, or cylinder-printed versions, in plastic or kraft.

If you’re shipping freshly roasted whole bean or high-grade ground coffee, a valve is not optional — it’s the difference between the product arriving in good condition or not.

Kraft bags with valve and zipper (túi kraft van 1 chiều, khóa zip)

A dedicated format for specialty whole bean and ground coffee: kraft paper outside, silver MPET lining inside, one-way degassing valve, and zipper closure. Available in three sizes: 250g (125×65×195mm), 500g (134×75×265mm), and 1kg. The flat rectangular base means the bag stands upright for display. The combination of valve and zipper is practical for retail: the valve protects quality from pack date forward, and the zipper lets the consumer reseal between uses. A common format for specialty coffee shops and artisan brands.

Coffee boxes (hộp cà phê)

Rigid paper boxes made from high-grade ivory board, printed with offset. Multiple lid styles available: snap closure, tuck bottom, adhesive seal. Two main formats:

Coffee boxes

  • Drip filter coffee boxes (hộp cà phê phin giấy) — Designed to hold individual drip filter bags (phin giấy). Each drip filter is a pre-portioned serving of ground coffee in a filter that hooks over a cup for single-serve brewing. No equipment needed. Boxes typically hold 5 or 10 filters. The box surface can be finished with matte lamination, foil stamping, or embossing. Strong format for gift sets, hotel amenity programs, and introducing Vietnamese coffee to new consumers in markets unfamiliar with the phin method.
  • Instant coffee boxes (hộp cà phê hòa tan) — Designed for instant or 3-in-1 coffee stick sachets. Same ivory board construction and offset printing. Stackable, easy to display, practical for retail and corporate gifting. Custom sizes available based on sachet count.
